Harvard Local Supports Climate Action

Why is the number 350 so important? According to leading climate scientists, 350 parts per million is the upper limit of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere that the Earth can tolerate over time and still avoid runaway climate change. We are at 388 PPM and rising about 2 PPM a year.

What is 350.org? 350.org is an international campaign to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis - to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for our planet.

Why October 24? 350.org has designated Oct. 24 an International Day of Climate Action. Thousands of events in over 150 countries will emphasize the importance of addressing the climate crisis now, especially at the crucial UN Climate Negotiations in Copenhagen in December. Copenhagen may well be the pivotal moment that determines whether or not we get the planet out of the climate crisis.
